It is really difficult to describe the history of Muso Shiden Ryu since there exist several interpretations. One fact, however, remains beyond doubt; the founder of Muso Shiden Ryu is Hojo Jinsuke Shigenobu, or also called Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu.
He developed his style between 1596 and 1601 in the province of Sagami located in Northern Japan. He started to show his style all over Japan without naming it. Others, however, called his style:
Shigenobu Ryu
Hayashizaki Ryu
ShinMuso Hayashizaki Ryu
Shinmei Muso Style
He was quite old when he suddenly disappeared during his last tour in Japan. Since then he became a mystic figure.
